Job description

*Taurus Healthcare are advertising on behalf of Mortimer Medical Practice*.

*This is a part time role working 30 hours per week*

We are currently looking to employ on a 9 month fixed contract a NVQ level 2 Dispenser to cover maternity leave to join our team based in rural Herefordshire. Applicants must hold a minimum of a level 2 NVQ in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.

Our three-site Practice has just over 8,800 patients. Our main site is in the village of Kingsland, and we have two satellite surgeries in the villages of Leintwardine and Orleton. The successful candidate would be able to work across our sites.

This is therefore an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality patient care whilst working with an excellent and experienced team who are committed to effective delivery.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate evidence of CPD. The practice team encourages and provides opportunities for ongoing professional development.

A full driving license is essential as the post holder will be required to travel between sites as the service requires.

Main duties of the job
  • Be the first port of call to patients
  • Taking in and handing out prescriptions
  • Dispensing prescriptions
  • Using dispensary and stores computer systems to generate stock lists and labels
  • Helping to maintain reasonable dispensary stock levels
  • Receiving, loading, unloading incoming goods from wholesalers, manufacturers, and elsewhere
  • Selling over-the-counter medicines
  • Answering queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where this is within their competence
  • Responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries of a routine nature from patients, their representatives, members of the public, and a wide range of staff groups and referring queries to the relevant member of the pharmacy team when necessary
  • Drawing any problems identified or queries raised to the attention of pharmacists or pharmacy technicians
  • Pre-packing, assembling, and labelling medicines
  • Ensuring that health and safety requirements are met
About us

Our three-site Practice has just over 8,800 patients. Our main site is in the village of Kingsland, and we have two satellite surgeries in the villages of Leintwardine and Orleton. We are a dispensing practice with a dispensary on each site.

We have 3 GP partners and 5 salaried GPs. There are 4 Practice Nurses. The Dispensary team consists of a Network Pharmacist doing the medicine reviews with patients, a Level 3 Managing Supervisor (pharmacy technician), five Level 2 dispensers. We also have a prescriptions clerk to take some of the admin away from the dispensers and support them in their role. We also have a home visiting Paramedic and a Physician Associate.

We are a proactive teaching practice of GP registrars, Student Nurses, Dispensary Apprentices, and Business Administration Apprentices.

Job responsibilities

Primary responsibilities

The following are core responsibilities of the Dispensary Assistant. There may be on occasion a requirement to carry out other tasks within your competencies; this will depend on factors such as workload and staffing.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • At a minimum NVQ level 2 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
Experience
  • A full driving license is essential as the post holder will be required to travel between sites as the service requires.
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Works autonomously and collaboratively. Recognising when referrals are required.
  • IT skills, computer and keyboard literate
  • The flexibility to cover extra hours at short notice
