Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for two Band 5 Qualified Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) roles. One post is with the Cambridge City and West Mental Health Support Team (MHST) based in Cambridge City Centre, and the other with the East Cambs and Cambridge North MHST based in Ely at the Princess of Wales Hospital. It is a condition of employment that you will be registered with either the BPS or BABCP; applications may be considered if registration is in progress or if you intend to register soon.
The Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner role involves delivering evidence-based early interventions to parents and young people, working across educational settings and healthcare sectors. MHSTs collaborate with education settings to provide early intervention for mild to moderate mental health difficulties for children, young people and their families/carers. The role requires travel around the allocated schools in the area.

Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver evidence-based interventions under supervision to children, young people, parents and carers in educational/community settings with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
- Develop and practice evidence-based skills to carry out holistic, child-centred mental health assessments, including risk assessments and risk formulations.
- Support access to more specialist services for children and young people with more severe problems.
- Support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify and manage mental health and wellbeing issues where appropriate.
- Use CWP skills to deliver a service within education settings, reinforcing existing initiatives without replacing them.
- Assess and deliver outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions in educational settings, collaborating with the education function of the setting.
- Work with children, young people and families to support self-management of presenting difficulties and to develop agreed plans and outcomes.
- Signpost referrals for more complex needs to appropriate services and escalate cases when risk or level of need is beyond scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate records, contribute to data collection and use records/outcome data to inform decision making.
- Attend multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings as appropriate and participate in clinical, line management and safeguarding supervision.
- Adhere to safeguarding protocols, information governance, data protection and local policies; maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
- Provide information on standards families can expect from the team and contribute to the development of clinical materials and training materials as appropriate.
- Engage in research, audits, and continuous professional development to support evidence-based practice.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Qualified Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP).
- Currently registered with either the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), or registered in progress with intention to register soon as required by the role.
- Ability to travel across educational settings within the MHST catchment area.
- Commitment to working in education and health care settings in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
