Job summary

Scrumconnect Consulting in London is seeking a QA Automation Tester with extensive experience in designing, developing and executing automation frameworks across UI, API and microservices-based applications.

You will work to ensure the quality, reliability and performance of government digital services, aligning with GOV.UK Service Standards and DDaT requirements, and you will collaborate across Agile teams to continuously improve testing practices.

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of experience as a QA Automation Tester or in a similar role.
• Hands-on UI automation with Playwright, Selenium and Cypress.
• Strong API testing skills with REST Assured and Postman.
• Proven ability to design and build automation frameworks from scratch.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and contract testing.
• Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
• Proficient with Git and version control.
• Solid SQL skills and testing relational databases.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent communication and collaboration in Agile teams.

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled QA Automation Tester with extensive experience in designing, developing and executing automation frameworks across UI, API and microservices-based applications.

In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the quality, reliability and performance of government digital services, with a focus on meeting GOV.UK Service Standard and Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Automation and Framework Development

• Design, develop and maintain robust automation frameworks for UI and API testing.
• Build automation frameworks from the ground up, following industry best practices.
• Create and maintain automated API test suites using Postman, REST Assured or equivalent tools.
• Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.

Test Planning and Execution

• Develop and execute automation-focused test plans for GOV.UK digital services.
• Ensure comprehensive test coverage across functional, regression and integration testing.
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validate end-to-end user journeys.
• Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, efficiency and automation reliability.

Defect Management and Quality Reporting

• Identify, document and track defects using tools such as Azure DevOps and Jira.
• Collaborate with developers to reproduce, investigate and resolve defects.
• Produce clear, data-driven test reports and automation execution summaries.
• Monitor automation results, identify recurring failures and recommend improvements.

Agile Delivery and Collaboration

• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including Scrum and Kanban activities.
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, business analysts and other QA engineers.
• Define and refine test strategies, prioritising automation and continuous quality improvement.
• Provide technical guidance and mentor junior testers where required.

Compliance and Quality Standards

• Align testing practices with relevant GOV.UK Service Standard and DDaT requirements.
• Support the validation of security, accessibility and performance requirements through automated and manual testing, where appropriate.
• Ensure testing approaches contribute to the delivery of reliable, accessible and user-centred digital services.

Technical Skills and Experience

• At least 6 years of experience as a QA Automation Tester or in a similar role.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with UI automation tools and frameworks, including Playwright, Selenium and Cypress.
• Strong experience with API testing tools, including REST Assured and Postman.
• Proven experience designing and developing automation frameworks from scratch.
• A solid understanding of microservices architecture and contract testing, including API testing.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
• Proficiency in Git and version control practices.
• Good knowledge of SQL and experience testing relational databases.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in Agile teams.
