Join to apply for the QA Engineer role at Blue Light Card

Blue Light Card. Individually great, together unstoppable

The Role and the Team

At Blue Light Card, we create meaningful digital experiences for the everyday heroes who keep our communities safe, cared for, and thriving. Quality is central to everything we do and as we grow, we're shaping a QA practice that enables our teams to move faster, safer, and with greater confidence.

We’re at the very beginning of that journey, and this is an exciting opportunity for multiple QA Engineers to help shape what quality looks like at BLC. Reporting to the QA Engineering Manager, you’ll go beyond writing tests, contributing to best practices, fostering a culture of quality, and helping define how we work together across teams.

Collaboration is at the heart of our work, we partner closely with the Product team in an agile squad structure, focusing on key outcomes such as share of wallet, personalisation, member growth & engagement, and platform evolution.

What You’ll Do

  • Write and maintain automated tests across web, mobile and backend systems, driving confidence in delivery
  • Design clear, practical test case scenarios and collaborate with engineers to build robust, reusable tests
  • Coach and support engineering teams on testing strategy, quality standards and tooling
  • Help embed functional and non-functional testing into CI/CD workflows and development plans
  • Monitor production systems and use observability tools to identify and resolve quality issues
  • Contribute to the evolution of testing frameworks, helping us scale our QA capabilities as we grow
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by sharing insights, leading retrospectives, and refining how we work
  • Take ownership of quality in your squads, advocating for members, impact, and long-term reliability

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience designing, writing and reviewing tests that go beyond coverage, focusing on meaningful outcomes
  • Confidence creating test scenarios and translating them into actionable, automated tests
  • Familiarity with testing across responsive websites, mobile apps and APIs
  • A people-focused mindset, you enjoy supporting others to build better quality into their code
  • Understanding of non-functional testing (e.g. performance, usability, observability) and how to apply it
  • A collaborative spirit, comfortable working in agile squads alongside Product and Engineering
  • Awareness of compliance, security and accessibility considerations in software testing
  • Fresh thinking from working in fast-paced tech environments, with a passion for doing things better

Our Culture

Our mission is simple – make heroes happy. Our members are the real-life heroes who keep us all safe, cared for, and thriving. It’s what gets us up in the morning and pushes us to go further, think bigger, and create something that truly matters. We don’t just follow the usual path - we look for smarter, bolder ways to deliver real impact. We take ownership, move fast, and work shoulder to shoulder to build something special.

We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive team where everyone feels they belong. Different perspectives and experiences help us grow, innovate, and better reflect the communities we serve.

We promote hybrid working, and value in-person collaboration so encourage time in our offices, where you can make the most of our fully stocked snack drawers – either the HQ in Leicestershire, or London, Holborn office. The frequency and office location will vary depending on the role and team, we aim to be flexible, but we aren’t able to offer fully remote working.
