Job Description

We are looking for a talented Python Software Engineer to join our Informatics team. The successful candidate should be a strong Python programmer with excellent interpersonal skills.

In this role, you will collaborate with key departments across the company that rely on our sequencing software - from teams producing flow cells for both customers and internal use, to cutting-edge research groups. Your responsibilities will include delivering requested features, communicating software improvements, resolving use case-specific issues, and optimising processes to align with their needs and improve efficiency. You will be expected to assess and prioritise incoming requests, while contributing to the planning of longer-term enhancements. You will also contribute to other projects as part of a Python development team with wide-ranging responsibility for aspects of several products.

The Details

The successful candidate will work as a key member of an agile team developing software for our sequencing instruments. The team works on new components and features that enable our customers to advance science using our DNA/RNA sequencers.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering robust, well-tested, highly efficient production-level implementations of innovative software
  • Developing and designing new components and features
  • Continually working to improve existing production code bases
  • Enthusiastically promoting and adopting best practices in software development

Requirements

We'll expect you to have significant software development experience, ideally in a commercial or industrial setting. You will have:

  • Expertise in modern Python
  • Knowledge of good software development techniques and practices
  • Relevant STEM degree, or equivalent experience

You should relish working as part of a team with diverse skills and backgrounds in a dynamic environment. You'll need strong interpersonal skills with the ability to discuss technical matters with non-technical colleagues.

This role will suit someone eager to learn who wants to contribute to existing projects and find solutions to problems as they arise. This is an exciting opportunity to join a cutting-edge, fast-paced organisation with opportunities to utilise new technology and influence change.

We offer outstanding benefits to include an attractive bonus, generous pension contributions, private healthcare and an excellent starting salary. Based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings with tree-lined walks, water features and a lake, all of which make for a wonderful working environment.
