Job summary

Miller Maxwell Ltd. is seeking a Python Software Engineer to help build and evolve an in-house provisioning platform for Linux servers and related infrastructure tooling.

The role focuses on infrastructure automation, network configuration, and secure secrets management. You’ll contribute to modernising build, test and release pipelines in a high‑performance, on‑premise trading environment and work with a deep, technically driven team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial Python software development.
• Solid Linux experience, ideally in production environments.
• Good networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, DNS).
• Experience building automation or infrastructure tooling.
• Exposure to physical servers or on-premise environments is a strong plus.

Python Software Engineer — Miller Maxwell is working with one of London’s leading high-frequency trading firms. The business builds virtually all of its technology in-house, and that includes the software used to build, configure and run its infrastructure.

This is a software engineering role focused on infrastructure tooling, not a cloud or support position. The estate is predominantly bare-metal Linux, with some virtualisation, Windows and a small cloud footprint. At its centre is an internally built Python provisioning platform, which you’ll help develop into a modern, well‑engineered product.

Significant programmes of work are planned across 2026 and 2027, so there’s real ownership and long‑term scope.

What the Python Software Engineer will focus on:

• Design and develop an in-house Python provisioning platform for Linux servers


• Build tools and services that automate server, network and firewall configuration


• Develop network automation, with config managed in version control


• Integrate Vault-compatible secrets management into internal tooling

Experience required for the Python Software Engineer:

• 5+ years of commercial Python software development


• Strong software engineering practices: testing, version control, code review


• Solid Linux experience, ideally in production environments

• Experience building automation or infrastructure tooling

• STEM degree or equivalent

Financial services experience isn’t required, but a background in a similarly demanding, high-performance environment is a strong advantage.
