Job summary

Man Group is seeking a Python Data Engineer to join our Enterprise Engineering Data Platform team in London. The role focuses on extending and supporting data systems, with involvement in greenfield projects and collaboration across Operations, Risk, Finance and other business streams.

The ideal candidate brings 2–6 years of SQL Server/Python/ETL experience, strong SQL skills, and familiarity with BI tools like Power BI and Tableau.

Qualifications

• 2–6 years of experience as SQL Server/Python/ETL Developer.
• Experience with MS SQL Server and .NET services.
• Experience with BI dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.

Responsibilities

• Extend and support existing data systems and pipelines within the Enterprise Engineering Data Platform.

We are looking for a Python Data Engineer to work within our Enterprise Engineering Data Platform team. The potential candidate is expected to have strong analytical skills and a genuine passion for technology and data. The work will be a mix of extending and supporting existing systems as well as some involvement with greenfield data-centric projects in line with our long-term vision. The work aligns with multiple business functions like Operations, Risk management, Finance as well as other business streams that are associated with our investment engines.

Technical Competencies

2-6 years of experience working as a SQL Server/Python/ETL Developer, comfortable working in a technical environment with a variety of technologies and integration techniques.

Our core Enterprise Engineering Data Platform is primarily based on MS SQL Server with .net services interacting with it. We use Octopus for deployments and have several in house developed reporting tool. We rely on Streamlit, Power BI and Tableau for dashboard creation. We also have Microsoft Analysis services in the finance function.

There are other technical teams who use Clickhouse, Iceberg, Trino, Arctic DB, DuckDB, Mongo, Oracle, Postgres and streamlit for their data wrangling.

Man has invested heavily in building its AI capabilities and making it as a first class citizen. Every member of the technology team along with the wider business community uses AI at Man in some form or the other in their daily job. This is either through using the in-house developed MAIA platform or via using various coding agents like Claude code or by building newer bots to automate tasks.

Key Competencies

Essential

• Embrace AI as a first class citizen.
• Python as the programming language of choice.
• Strong SQL skills: Coding Stored Procedure, Functions, Scripts with SQL Server and Oracle.
• Experience with MS SSIS, ETL development, MS SSAS (DAX or MDX).
• Notions of Data Modelling, especially dimensional data modelling.
• Familiarity with Agile methodology and code reviews/continuous integration.
• Ability to understand and break down complex business requirements and communicate with stakeholders.
• Ability to articulate knowledge/information and share ideas.
• Have passion and zeal to make an impact and see through to closure of planned tasks.

Advantageous

• Experience with Version control tools/CI/CD/Deployment tool like git/Octopus/Jenkins.
• Exposure to BI tools such as Tableau, PowerBI or SSRS or any other visualization tool.
• Performance tuning of queries.
• C# is desirable
