Job summary

Alexander Daniels Finance Recruitment is partnering with a well-established engineering and project-based business to recruit an experienced Purchasing Manager. You will own purchasing operations, supplier management, and inventory control across UK and international supply chains.

Lead the Purchasing Department, optimise spend, negotiate with suppliers, collaborate with finance and operations, and implement procurement processes that support project deadlines and business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience within Procurement, Purchasing, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, energy, or project-based environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and stock control processes.
  • Experience managing procurement budgets and expenditure.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience using ERP or procurement systems alongside strong Excel skills.
  • CIPS qualification or equivalent procurement accreditation.
  • Experience of international sourcing, shipping, and logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Purchasing Department, ensuring effective processes, controls, and commercial decision-making.
  • Oversee procurement activities across the business, sourcing goods and services from UK and international suppliers.
  • Drive supplier performance through relationship management, negotiation, and ongoing evaluation.
  • Manage supplier onboarding, compliance documentation, KPI monitoring, and performance reviews.
  • Resolve supplier issues and disputes in a professional and commercially focused manner.
  • Ensure procurement policies and procedures are maintained and adhered to across the organisation.
  • Work closely with operational teams to develop stock management and inventory control systems.
  • Monitor project-related purchasing activity, ensuring spend is controlled and aligned with requirements.
  • Provide procurement reports to support month-end and financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure efficient PO, invoice, and payment processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiencies, systems, and processes.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, market trends, and relevant legislation.

Alexander Daniels are partnering with a well-established engineering and project-based business to recruit an experienced Purchasing Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a procurement professional to take ownership of purchasing operations, supplier management, inventory control, and procurement strategy across a growing organisation with both UK and international supply chains.

The successful candidate will lead the purchasing function, manage supplier relationships, support operational teams, and ensure procurement activities are delivered efficiently, cost-effectively, and in line with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Supply Chain Management
  • Lead and manage the Purchasing Department, ensuring effective processes, controls, and commercial decision-making.
  • Oversee procurement activities across the business, sourcing goods and services from both UK and international suppliers.
  • Drive supplier performance through relationship management, negotiation, and ongoing evaluation.

Inventory & Operational Support

  • Support business functions with timely sourcing and procurement solutions to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide accurate procurement reports and analysis to support month-end and financial reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance to ensure efficient purchase order, invoice, and payment processes.
  • Monitor purchasing expenditure and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Develop strong internal relationships across finance, operations, and project teams.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with suppliers, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a key point of contact for procurement-related matters across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to improve procurement efficiencies, systems, and processes.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, market trends, best practice, and relevant legislation.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the procurement function and wider business objectives.
About You

We're looking for a proactive and commercially minded procurement professional who can balance strategic thinking with hands‑on operational delivery.

  • Significant experience within Procurement, Purchasing, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, energy, or project-based environment.
