Job summary

Travail Employment Group in Grantham is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to join an engineering and manufacturing environment. This is a permanent role paying c.£45k per year.

You will manage the supply chain, buy materials, negotiate contracts and prices with UK and global suppliers, and lead day-to-day procurement activities with a small team; some overseas travel may be required to secure best-value terms, while ensuring policy compliance and ethical sourcing.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager in manufacturing, preferably with an engineering background.
• Strong negotiation and analytical management skills.
• Proficiency with MRP and stock management systems.
• CIPS qualification (or working towards MCIPS) is an advantage.
• Ability to work on your own and run the supply chain.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement cost-effective purchasing by identifying continuous improvement initiatives and cost-down opportunities.
• Build relationships with key suppliers, negotiate commercial contracts, best-value pricing and lead times with UK and global suppliers combined with overseas travel where appropriate.
• Work closely with departments to support existing and new product introduction.
• Monitor market trends, mitigate supply chain risks, and maintain optimal inventory levels using MRP system.
• Ensure all purchasing operations comply with company policies, HMRC/customs legislation, and ethical sourcing standards.
• Secure high-quality and uninterrupted supply of goods to keep production lines running.
• Day-to-day procurement activities typically sourcing Ferrous/Non-Ferrous, and associated products, laser/pressed components, and indirect services.

Role Overview

Due to a recent promotion within the business, we are looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to join an established Grantham based company within an engineering and manufacturing environment.

This role is to manage the supply chain, buying materials, negotiating contracts and prices within a small team, you will have administrator who will report into this role but no direct management responsibilities.
