Job description

About this Role

Join Our Team at Parkside School!

We currently have two Pupil Support Worker positions available: one permanent role and one 1-year maternity cover direct contract, both starting in September.

Are you passionate, dedicated and proactive, looking to make a meaningful impact in a supportive school environment?

Parkside School is seeking a committed colleague to join our team in the role of Pupil Support Worker.

In this rewarding role, you will work closely with Key Stage Managers to deliver high quality pastoral care, primarily focusing on a specified year group. You will play a vital role in securing the highest levels of attendance, behaviour and wellbeing, helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential. You will also work in partnership with families, internal teams and external agencies to provide tailored support for every child.

Additionally, you will serve as a Coach for a small group of students, guiding them in their personal and academic growth.

Please note this is a term time only (+ 5 days) position, working 37 hours, Mon-Fri per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting Students: Work closely with Key Stage Managers, coaches and mentors to deliver pastoral support, assess student needs, and create plans that improve behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing. Assist with transitions, personal needs, and conduct home or welfare visits as needed.
  • Support for the Teacher: Maintain accurate record keeping on platforms like CPOMs, gather student information from feeder schools, monitor action plans, and liaise with SENCO and pastoral staff to address barriers to learning.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build positive, constructive relationships with parents and carers, exchanging information to support student progress, while fostering links with external support agencies and outside services.
  • Whole School Duties: Act as a Coach for a small group of students, assist with supervision before, during, and after school, attend school events, support the behaviour policy, and provide cover supervision for classes when operationally required.
  • Professional Development and Safeguarding: Uphold strict safeguarding and child protection procedures as a proactive member of the safeguarding team, participate in training such as Team Teach or first aid, and maintain professional standards at all times.
Candidate Requirements
  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification or experience, plus GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent). Qualifications or experience in social work, youth work, counselling, teaching, or mentoring are essential.
  • Experience: Proven experience of communicating positively with others, working in a team, and supporting young people whose learning may be impeded due to SEMH, additional needs, or wider circumstances. Experience enabling families to access support agencies.
  • Knowledge: Full understanding of support services available to young people, working knowledge of national curriculum/learning programmes, and thorough knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
  • Skills and Ethos: Strong communication, time management, and ICT skills with the ability to respond calmly under pressure, manage behaviour effectively, and plan actions for students at risk of underachieving.
  • Personal Attributes: A collaborative, empathetic, and organised team player who acts with honesty and integrity, manages pressure well, and demonstrates a commitment to equality and personal development.
  • Checks and Training: Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and actively participate in essential role training such as first aid and Team Teach.
