Job Details
- We are looking for a committed Pupil Support Assistant (3) who is passionate about improving life chances for all, so that children and young people can achieve their full potential. As a Pupil Support Assistant (3), you will work under the direction and supervision of a class teacher or member of the school’s leadership team to assist teaching staff in supporting pupils with significant learning or health needs to access the curriculum and to ensure they participate in an inclusive school experience.
Responsibilities
- Support pupils' health and care needs.
- Implement the planned learning programme in the absence of the teacher for up to 3 days.
- Support pupils individually, in small groups, or in class in areas of learning and personal development.
- Contribute to planning and review processes for individual pupils, including Child’s Plans.
- Create a stimulating learning environment by supporting the teacher and assisting with timetabling and organisation.
- Maintain written records of pupil support programmes.
- Provide high levels of care, including gastrostomy/PEG feeding, medication administration, toileting, and catheterisation.
- Organise and participate in lunchtime and learning support clubs as appropriate.
- Use specialist equipment (e.g., IT) to support pupils with severe physical impairments.
- Utilise specialist communication methods (e.g., sign language, Braille, AAC) to facilitate learning and interaction.
- Support pupil mobility as per training in moving and handling techniques.
The Person
- Possess good interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of a team and ensure positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Have experience supporting young people with additional support needs.
- Obtain PVG scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland before appointment.
- Be educated to SCQF level 7 (e.g., HNC Childhood Practice, SVQ Social Services Children and Young People) or equivalent.
- Be able to register with SSSC within 6 months of employment and complete required Post Registration Training and Learning (PRTL).
- Have good IT skills.
