Job summary

City of Edinburgh Council is recruiting a Pupil Support Assistant for Craigroyston Primary School. You will join a supportive team to help pupils with additional support needs access education and have their care and wellbeing needs met.

The role runs 27.5 hours per week over 39 weeks per year, with a pro-rata salary of £26,806–£27,032. Duties include personal care, learning support, safety, and local community activities to aid development and inclusion.

Qualifications

• PVG Scheme check required; Overseas Criminal Record Check may be required for those who have spent time outside the UK.

Responsibilities

• Work 1-1 and assist pupils with additional support needs to organise their day and follow instructions.
• Provide personal care to children with additional support needs, including feeding, toileting, dressing and encouraging independence.
• Administering medication and completing related paperwork in line with training procedures.
• Support pupil mobility as defined by moving and handling training.
• Provide comfort and care for minor accidents, reporting to staff as needed.
• Follow risk assessment procedures as required.
• Assist teachers and pupils in learning activities, including reading interventions and one-to-one learning.
• Contribute to record keeping and pupil learning plans and attend appropriate meetings.
• Carry out support strategies as advised by senior staff and specialist services.
• Support positive relationships and emotional wellbeing using evidence-based approaches.
• Support school-wide plans and transitions between schools; supervise and escort pupils as needed.
• Supervise pupils and support play in the playground.
• Participate in professional development opportunities and training.
