Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a Solicitor to provide high quality legal service to the Council in Swindon. You will manage a diverse caseload, advise on Adults, Children’s Services, Education and related public law matters, and contribute to continuous improvement of legal services.

The successful candidate will interpret complex legislation, draft and negotiate documents, and represent the Council in proceedings.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor/barrister or CILEX/FILEx with current practising certificate.
• Substantial knowledge of local government legal frameworks and governance.
• Ability to interpret legislation and provide practical legal guidance.
• Experience representing clients in proceedings and drafting robust documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, timely legal advice to Council officers and Members.
• Manage a personal caseload and ensure case progression and risk management.
• Conduct legal research and analyse legislation and case law.
• Draft, negotiate and complete legal documents and agreements.
• Represent the Council in proceedings, including advocacy where appropriate.
• Support safeguarding, education, and social care related matters as applicable.
