We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our successful Public Sector team in an exciting and innovative role. You will work across our Public Sector Financial Reporting team and our Public Sector Financial Reporting and Accounting Support team.

Our Public Sector Financial Reporting team provides training, guidance, technical assistance, and quality assurance to support the UK’s largest public sector external audit practice, delivering high-quality audits that provide assurance to the public and stakeholders, adding value to public sector organizations.

Our Public Sector Financial Reporting and Accounting Support service offers direct support to non-audit finance teams facing challenges related to technical accounting, financial reporting, and wider finance functions. We recognize the pressures faced by public sector finance teams balancing financial stability with increased complexity, regulatory, and accounting changes.

This role offers the opportunity to utilize your financial reporting and accounting knowledge to support audit teams and public sector organizations directly.

A look into the role

The manager role across our Public Sector Financial Reporting (FR) and Financial Reporting and Accounting Support (FRAS) teams involves supporting audit quality and assisting clients with major challenges.

FR responsibilities include:

  • Review draft public sector financial statements to support audit teams and manage risk
  • Respond to complex or unique financial reporting queries
  • Lead the drafting of internal guidance and training materials
  • Present or support presentations at internal and external events
  • Contribute to responses on technical consultations
  • Stay updated on professional debates
  • Build strong relationships with audit teams
  • Collaborate with Financial Reporting and Audit Quality teams

FRAS responsibilities include:

  • Manage non-audit clients
  • Use problem-solving skills for complex technical matters such as accounting issues, standards implementation, financial reporting review, and governance
  • Engage in team responsibilities through training and new projects
  • Oversee and develop your team
  • Maintain strong client relationships
  • Strive for continuous improvement and support business growth

Minimum criteria to join us as a manager:

  • Professional Accounting qualification (CIPFA, ACA, ICAS, CA, or ACCA)
  • Post-qualification experience in external audit delivery for Local Authorities and Health bodies or within a Local Government or Health finance function
  • Strong understanding of IFRS standards and their application in the public sector
  • Extensive knowledge of public sector financial reporting
  • Project management experience
  • Business development experience (beneficial)
