Job summary

The Government Statistical Service (GSS) offers a 12-month industrial placement as part of your degree. You will contribute to major analytical projects and work with statisticians, data scientists and policy professionals across government to inform decisions and improve public services.

You’ll gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and join a community focused on evidence-based policy making.

Qualifications

• Experience in collection, manipulation and analysis of data and presenting research results (basic statistics).
• IT literate with experience of Excel and statistical software.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to communicate analysis to non-specialists.
• Ability to work in a team to deliver statistical advice and analysis under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to high-profile analytical projects supporting ministers, senior leaders and policymakers.
• Apply techniques from studies to real projects and provide evidence that shapes government decisions.
• Develop practical analytical and data skills and gain professional experience in a government analysis environment.
