Job Description

You already know what a Senior Manager does, so we want to tell you what it’s like to work within Public Sector Audit at Grant Thornton, and what we can offer you that others don’t.

Why Public Sector Audit at Grant Thornton

Our UK audit practice comprises over 2300 people across 24 locations. We are proud of our strong position in terms of wellbeing, resources, and quality, demonstrated by recent positive AQR results.

Grant Thornton’s Public Sector Audit team is a market leader in external audits for local government (including police and fire services) and the NHS. We audit approximately 25% of the NHS market and 36% of local government. Our team works with some of the largest public sector bodies in the country, supported by specialists in financial reporting, audit quality, value for money, and grants assurance. We are passionate about our sector’s importance and the role we play for taxpayers.

Our size and culture provide greater career development opportunities. You will have more responsibility, variety in your work, and the chance to work with diverse clients. We support your professional growth through development programs and opportunities.

We welcome applications from those who have taken career breaks or are returning to public sector audit, offering support to upskill and reintegrate into our team.

Why Audit Quality?

We seek a Senior Manager for our Public Sector Audit Quality team, who may also support audits as an Audit Manager. As the UK's largest local audit provider, we are committed to audit quality, investing heavily in this area. We are the only firm with a dedicated public sector audit quality team, and your role will be central in providing high-quality support, training, and guidance.

Life is about more than work

We promote flexible working options, including reduced hours, job shares, and hybrid work arrangements, to help balance your professional and personal life. Feel free to take breaks or attend to personal commitments if it fits your work schedule.

Knowing we’re right for you

Our inclusive culture values diversity and encourages everyone to bring their whole selves to work. We foster an environment where colleagues are accessible and engaged, supporting your personal and professional development.

  • Taking on wider responsibilities through training and new projects
  • Continuously pushing yourself and the business forward with support at every stage

Knowing you’re right for us

The minimum requirements include a professional qualification (ACA, ICAS, CA, ACCA, or CIPFA) with post-qualification experience and confidence managing a large public sector audit portfolio. Preferred skills include:
