Job description

Position Purpose

Under general supervision, performs technical inspections of property to ensure compliance with city codes, including animal control, parked vehicles, and rights-of-ways. Assists Police Officers with traffic crashes, traffic details, non-emergency calls, illegal parking, etc.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Patrols assigned areas to identify violations of City Code of Ordinances.
  • Enforces parking regulations and issues citations as necessary.
  • Interacts professionally with the public to address violations and concerns.
  • Conducts investigations to gather details for citations or other actions.
  • Prepares visual aids and documents for regulatory agencies.
  • Communicates with other agencies to gather case information.
  • Testifies in court and presents evidence related to ordinance violations.
  • Attends training, seminars, and courses to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • Prepares and delivers community educational presentations.
  • Coordinates community events and assists with traffic management during parades, escorts, and concerts.
  • Directs traffic at school crossings during peak hours.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience.

Special Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of police department rules, regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Understanding of law enforcement principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with office procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of parking enforcement responsibilities.
  • Ability to prepare traffic reports, citations, and written documentation.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to follow instructions and produce clear reports.
