Job summary

Merton Council operates a CCTV Control Room to monitor public spaces, support the Police and partner agencies, and ensure compliance with data protection and surveillance legislation.

The role involves monitoring cameras, processing footage, maintaining logs, supporting reporting, and providing witness statements when required. Training and shift work are part of the duties, with an emphasis on safeguarding and customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience in a CCTV control room or similar monitoring environment.
• Strong observation, communication and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to remain focused and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and CCTV legislation.
• Commitment to equality, diversity, customer service and health & safety.
• Flexibility to work shifts.

Responsibilities

• Monitor CCTV cameras and identify incidents requiring action.
• Liaise with Police, Council services and partner organisations.
• Retrieve and process CCTV footage in line with policies and legislation.
• Maintain accurate incident logs and records.
• Support performance reporting and service improvements.
• Provide witness statements and attend court when required.
• Assist with training, system monitoring and CCTV maintenance coordination.
