THE ROLE

The Public Relations Consultant supports the public relations activities for MFS' business globally. Under the guidance of senior members of the public relations team, works with senior leaders, and other internal stakeholders’ to build MFS’ brand, further enhance reputation, and market perception of its business.

The Public Relations Consultant works at a tactical level, executing on the media relations strategy, as well as responding to specific journalists' requests. As such, they will have an understanding of the financial media with existing media relationships and the tenacity and determination to build new relationships to increase MFS' media coverage.

Assist with the management of regional PR agencies in MFS’ focus markets to deliver enterprise, investment and corporate messages and support sales and business objectives. Works with key stakeholders and the wider marketing team to identify opportunities to create and promote engaging content for dissemination through external media channels, including social media, helping to position MFS as a thought leader in the industry.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Media Strategy: Working in collaboration with Public Relations team members to help establish and implement a global external media strategy for MFS's business. Engage closely with the business stakeholders, local sales heads, and the global marketing team to articulate MFS’s long-term business proposition and promote its key enterprise themes.

  • PR Agency Management: Supports the management of external PR agencies in key markets. Coordinate media interviews and logistics for key spokespeople.

  • Campaigns and Initiatives: Help develop and implement focused media plans that bolster key business objectives and marketing initiatives. Collaborate with the global marketing team to align these plans and messages with both global and regional strategies, enhancing the effectiveness of the PR strategy.

  • Content Production: Assist to proactively and creatively prepare and deliver timely and compliant content, including articles, written media responses and press releases to promote MFS’s proposition across its target markets.

  • Thought Leadership: Support Strategists and Sr. Strategists in their aim to position MFS spokespeople as thought leaders in their field through the dissemination of content and proactively generating opportunities with leading publications. Provide input and brainstorm on opportunity areas.

  • Media Monitoring and Measurement: Monitor press coverage, manage the distribution of press cuttings via an external provider tool, compile daily newsletter and report on effectiveness ensuring accounts are kept up to date with all relevant and key information. Provide a quarterly report summarizing media interaction and press coverage.

  • Process and Procedures: Working in collaboration with Public Relations team members, maintain MFS' external communications processes and procedures documentation, ensuring that communications are compliant and timely. Lead a range of PR department administrative activities in partnership with the regional PR agencies including the development and maintenance of vendor relationships, overseeing media databases, customizing press lists and researching editorial calendars to maximize opportunities.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, or equivalent experience

  • 5-6+ years plus of related experience, preferably in a global corporate communications or agency environment

  • Prior experience working with an investment management or financial services organization is desirable

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Detail oriented self-starter with excellent problem solving and organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize and juggle projects while also meeting deadlines

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Skilled in using the MS Office suite, particularly PowerPoint; knowledge of media monitoring tools such as Roxhill and Agility is advantageous.

PREFERRED:

  • Interest in investment management, capital markets and financial media

  • Existing relationships with the financial media is advantageous

  • Background in digital/social media is a plus
