Job Type: Full Time

Location: This role could be based in either our Edinburgh or London offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

The role

Our growing Corporate Communications team works closely with our senior leaders and is part of a dynamic department that spans media relations, public affairs, investor relations, sustainability, brand, and our retirement think tank the Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement.

As a Public Relations Manager focused on our Standard Life brand you will contribute to the development and implementation of a media programme to protect, grow and enhance our reputation of one of the UK’s leading retirement savings businesses. You will be part of a team who will manage our newsroom and run well organised PR campaigns. You will be working closely with PR colleagues, our proposition and policy teams, investment specialists and our agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and delivering the ongoing PR strategy for our Pensions and Savings and Retirement Solutions businesses with a focus on the Workplace pensions, Retail Intermediary and Retail Direct channels and B2B audiences
  • Contributing to wider campaign and newsroom activity of the PR team to establish Standard Life as a business committed to providing good outcomes for retirement savers. PR experience and journalist relationships across trade and personal finance titles desirable
  • Identifying proactive opportunities to build our brand and reputation with media and industry audiences, working with colleagues in Public Affairs, Brand and Proposition to develop and evolve our story
  • Identifying key internal stakeholders and developing strong relationships to support your activity. You will be experienced in providing counsel at all levels of an organisation
  • Drafting, writing and issuing of a range of written outputs including press releases, commentary, content packages and briefing notes

What are we looking for?

  • Excellent organisational skills, being able to manage competing priorities, and plan out activity on a forward-looking basis, whilst also managing immediate requests driven by external news agenda and business priorities.
  • Keen interest in the 24/7 news cycle and media landscape, with an understanding of how retirement savings activity within Standard Life can play into the news agenda.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop effective relationships across our organisation and with external stakeholders. Work with our wider team to provide good communications counsel to colleagues on important issues.
  • Excellent writing skills, and ability to turn complex information into something easily understandable and compelling. Experience may have been gained from prior experience writing reports, research papers, briefing notes, press releases etc.
  • Experience working on B2B public relations activity is desirable but not essential
