Job description

Working hours:
Monday to Friday, Office based

A well-established and loyal client is looking for a Public Law (Care) Solicitor who will play a vital role in handling public law matters with a focus on care cases. This role requires a qualified solicitor with at least 2 years PQE, possessing in-depth knowledge of the Children’s Act, particularly in the context of public law. Membership of the children panel is preferable, or a commitment to becoming a member. The successful candidate should be a competent advocate in the Magistrates and County Court, experienced in managing their own caseload with oversight, and willing to collaborate as a team player.

Responsibilities:

  1. Handle public law (care) cases, with a focus on matters related to the Children’s Act.
  2. Provide legal advice and representation to clients in Magistrates and County Court.
  3. Act as an advocate in court proceedings, demonstrating competence and expertise.
  4. Manage and oversee your own caseload, ensuring effective case management.
  5. Collaborate with other professionals within the firm, covering work for colleagues when necessary.

Requirements:

  1. Qualified solicitor with at least 2 years PQE (candidates with less than 2 years PQE will be considered based on experience).
  2. In-depth knowledge of the Children’s Act, emphasizing public law aspects.
  3. Membership of the children panel is preferable, or a commitment to becoming a member.
  4. Competent advocate in the Magistrates and County Court.
  5. Higher Courts Advocate qualification is preferable but not essential.
  6. Experience in managing your own caseload, with the ability to work with oversight.
  7. Team player mentality, willing to cover work for colleagues as needed.
