Job description

EMS Healthcare is recruiting for a dedicated team of Public Health Ambassadors to play a pivotal role in engaging with the public to encourage them to take part in an important and exciting health awareness campaign.

Working as an integral part of the Outreach team at EMS Healthcare you will be responsible for engaging on the ground with the local community to create awareness, inform and educate people on the key elements of the campaign, encourage and drive participation through survey capture and signpost individuals to where they can find out further information.

This role will involve working in and around the localities of Lancashire and South Cumbria, days and timings to be agreed and may include Saturdays. The project will run initially for a 5-week period starting week commencing 15th September 2025. A three day training will commence WC 8th September and will be located at EMS HQ.

Reporting into the Outreach Project Manager, your key responsibilities will be to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer across Lancashire and South Cumbria through direct communication with members of the public. You will have a passion for face-to-face communication and the ability to connect with people from within the targeted cohort demographic, driving awareness and engaging with the campaign.

Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, Preston, Chorley and South Ribble, Pennine Lancashire, Morecambe Bay & West Lancashire

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strong knowledge of the subject matter to be able to confidently discuss with and provide information to the target cohort (full training will be provided).
  • Approach and engage directly with the public to create awareness and increase participation through survey capture
  • Answer any questions that may arise and where required signpost for further information.
  • Actively engage with the target cohort to drive participation across the key groups.
  • Encourage people within the target cohort to engage with the campaign.
  • Signpost members of the public to correct access points as directed by the campaign messaging.
  • Be enthusiastic & polite in all communications.
  • Take a proactive approach to each working day and be able to assist with any operational circumstances that could arise on the day.
  • Communicate verbally in a positive and professional manner.
  • Undertake regular liaison with the Project Manager, providing feedback and completing weekly reports throughout the duration of the project.
  • Work with the Public Health Ambassador to deliver the campaign to meet the agreed project KPIs.
  • Encourage patients to attend GP appointments if worried about symptoms through enthusiastic, clear and concise messaging.
  • Perform administrative duties as defined within the campaign protocol.
  • Maintain equipment accountability (iPad etc. as required).
  • Any other reasonable task as requested by your line manager.

Experience

  • Experience of working within a healthcare or medical environment or brand is desirable but not essential (full training will be provided).
  • Experience of performing a similar public facing engagement role.

Working Hours

Eight hours per day, four days per week, may include Saturdays.

Travel

It is your responsibility to arrange travel to and from the event location.
