Job Purpose
We're seeking a Water Quality and Public Health Scientist to provide expert advice and guidance across United Utilities, ensuring customer wellbeing and product safety. Responsible for assessing public health performance, developing emergency procedures, creating education materials and maintaining strong relationships with local authorities.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- To provide public health advice and information to all parts of the Company both in and out of normal office hours to ensure the health and wellbeing of customers and minimise the likelihood of prosecution for supplying unfit drinking water.
- To carry out assessments of public health performance of operations to reduce the incidence of deterioration of product quality which may affect public health and recommend a course of action.
- To develop quality-based management procedures for dealing with the most common public health emergencies and incidents.
- To evaluate the latest published work and literature for its implications on public health aspects of the Company's activities so advice is as timely as possible for immediate problem solving needs or for input into longer term solutions.
- To interpret the latest published work and literature and prepare in-house educational material so that employees have a better awareness and understanding of public health issues.
- To maintain external contacts on a formal basis with local government authorities and health authorities in the region to ensure high levels of confidence in the public health safety of the Company's products.
- Two direct reports (WQA - Team Leader; PH Analyst) and further 4 WQAs. Participate in the Water Quality and Public Health Teams on-call rota.
