Exciting opportunities are available for experienced, enthusiastic, dynamic, and motivated Public Health Midwife – Stop Smoking.

We will support the provision of our Stop Smoking in Pregnancy service, delivered across Staffordshire.

Overview

Main functions of this role are:

Be responsible for supporting the Stop Smoking in Pregnancy service, delivering face‑to‑face and virtual appointments, promoting a healthy pregnancy and creating a smoke‑free household.

Work with Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisors, Maternity units, Midwives and other stakeholders to increase referrals and reduce health inequalities.

Main duties of the job
  • Liaise closely with Maternity Tobacco Dependency Advisors and Midwives to ensure a closed feedback loop in line with Saving Babies Lives v3.
  • Be flexible, manage time well, and maintain service delivery targets.
  • Deliver group clinics and one‑to‑one appointments using behaviour change techniques.
  • Support training of stakeholders on the referral pathway and delivery model.
  • Contribute to planning, delivery and continued support of the stop smoking service across the area.

Person specification
  • Registered Midwife (NMC).
  • NCSCT Smoking Practitioner registered (or willingness to obtain training).
  • NCSCT VBA training modules (Smoking for Pregnant Women, Vaping, Stop Smoking Medication, Very Brief Advice).
  • Making Every Contact Count (MECC) Training.
Experience
  • At least 2 years experience within a hospital and/or community midwifery setting.
  • Experience with maternal public health services and evidence‑led service delivery.
  • Knowledge of the risks and harms of smoking in pregnancy and secondhand smoke.
  • Knowledge of local services and clinical pathways.
  • Understanding of barriers to smoking cessation within local communities across Staffordshire.
Special conditions
  • Highly motivated self‑starter with resilience and determination.
  • Good presentation, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible.
  • Role may include evening / weekend working and variable travel across Staffordshire.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car for work (business insurance).
  • DBS check required for working with vulnerable adults.
