Job description

The Doncaster Growing Together Borough Strategy has set out to change the way that public services deliver community support.You have an opportunity to be part of this in the role of Public Health Improvement Coordinator.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a passion for improving public health and wellbeing to join our Children, Young People & Families (CYPF) team. The team cover a wide variety of public health issues affecting children and young people. This post contributes to the work of the team relating to risk taking behaviours with a main focus on substance misuse.

The post-holder will contribute to the work of the local Combatting Drugs Partnership, which brings together partners to work together to understand their population and how drugs are causing harm in their area, any challenges in their local system and the changes that are needed to address them.

[Harm reduction, pathways, training packages, emerging issues and challenges in the space].

Key elements of the post will include:

  • Working collaboratively with providers and stakeholders to map existing support and identify gaps to ensure seamless access to care and support for young people and families.
  • Exploring emerging challenges by monitoring trends and issues in youth substance use, to convene stakeholders to co-develop prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Developing tailored information, advice, and guidance materials for young people, families, and professionals to raise awareness, reduce harm, and promote informed decision-making.
  • Supporting wider priorities of the Combatting Drugs Partnership and/or the CYPF Team portfolio when required.

We are looking for an experienced public health practitioner who can demonstrate a working knowledge of implementing evidence-based public health programmes and service improvement initiatives. Strong interpersonal skills, being able to negotiate, influence, mediate and work collaboratively are required. This should include the ability to work under pressure, dealing with complexity and being able to make independent decisions and develop solutions within the resources available.
