We have an exciting opportunity to join our multidisciplinary public health team. We have four fixed term (12 months) Public Health Graduate roles available. The team is split into six subdivisions and focused on Healthy Behaviours and Communities Healthcare Public Health and Addictions Children and Young People Adults and Older People Knowledge Evidence and Governanceand Environmental Public Health and Health Protection it is part of the Adult Social Care Directorate of the Council.

The available roles report to our Assistant Directors of Public Health the role (grade B) is designed for recent graduates with a degree in Public Health or an equivalent relevant degree level qualification. It will give early and formative experience in applying your learning in a dynamic public health department. The graduate work could span across all of the core subdivisions of Public Health on a series of both structured projects linked to the Health and Wellbeing Board and the NHS Integrated Care Systems and reactive pieces of work that are designed to have an impact on the health of the population of Birmingham by managing projects from initiation to completion there will be opportunities to demonstrate personal impact and outcomes during the placement.

Successful graduates will be required to deliver on a selection of duties and responsibilities working with the Assistant Directors of Public Health and their teams with responsibilities changing and evolving based on emerging priorities and business needs.

Skills & Experience

Each graduate must have a Public Health degree or other relevant degree level qualification and must be prepared to continue with ongoing professional development within the role.

It is desirable that the post holders have experience of working on projects monitoring performance and understanding public health is also desirable for the post holders to have experience of report writing and communicating information to a diverse audience.

The successful graduates will develop and apply subject matter expertise and technical skills to public health projects and implement practical and rigorous approaches to ensure that work has an impact on health and wellbeing. This includes:

  • Identifying and using suitable sources of data and conducting data analysis to help establish health needs.
  • Engaging with citizens and other stakeholders to understand the local context and feasibility of interventions
  • Communicating and presenting innovative solutions and best practice for health andwellbeing problems to stakeholders and citizens
  • Supporting the evaluation of interventions
  • Delivering technical pieces of work such as; health needs assessments health impact assessments systematic reviews or health economics analyses
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to embed evidencebased approaches
  • Supporting work on equality impact assessments
