Opportunity: As a Public Health Engineer, you will work within various market sectors, focusing on high-performing buildings such as laboratories and data centres. Your contribution will span all project phases, including feasibility, design, execution, and in-use. You will manage multiple projects concurrently and report directly to sector Directors. Your responsibilities include designing Public Health services throughout the project lifecycle, from initial brief to final sign-off. You will participate in design teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions and communicate effectively with clients, simplifying complex concepts. Staying updated with industry developments through research and contacts is essential. As part of an international firm, you will collaborate with teams and clients worldwide, providing UK-based design and consultancy services and engaging in international projects. This is a full-time hybrid role (3 days in the office, 2 days remote).
Responsibilities:
- Produce designs, drawings, schematics, diagrams, reports, specifications, and risk assessments for:
- Medical Gases (Argon, Compressed Air, Helium, CO2, O2, and others), Manifold Gas Design
- Laboratory water systems (various grades and applications)
- Gas distribution systems, including toxic, inert, and flammable gases, with specialist detection systems
- Liquid nitrogen and oxygen depletion calculations for gas detection requirements
- Plug and play Swagelok gas design
- Sanitary plumbing, sitewide drainage, radioactive and laboratory drainage, domestic water services, treated water, boiler feed, cooling tower makeup water, and sanitary plumbing
- Support ad-hoc tasks to assist the wider business
Requirements:
- Proven 3+ years experience in Public Health Engineering, preferably in construction/design
- Experience in commissioning services and troubleshooting installed systems
- UK design experience with knowledge of relevant standards and regulations
- Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with Revit is desirable
- Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, able to present complex information clearly
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
Desirable:
- Knowledge of effluent treatment plants for biosafety laboratories
- Design experience with specialized water systems
- Project team leadership experience
- CIBSE Chartered Engineer qualification (desirable but not essential)
