Job summary

Simpson Judge is seeking a motivated Public Family Paralegal to join its busy Family Law Department in Worcester. The role provides hands-on experience supporting solicitors with publicly funded family law matters, including care proceedings and vulnerable clients.

You will assist with legal aid applications, manage confidential files, prepare court documents and liaise with clients and professionals under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Interest in pursuing a career in family law
  • Experience in a legal environment preferred, especially family law or care proceedings
  • Understanding of family law procedures and court process
  • Knowledge of Legal Aid or publicly funded work is desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
  • Proficient IT and case-management skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist solicitors with public family law and care proceedings
  • Manage and maintain accurate, confidential client files
  • Prepare correspondence, court documents, statements and applications under supervision
  • Review and organise evidence, including social services documentation and expert reports
  • Prepare court bundles and assist with hearing preparation
  • Liaise with clients, barristers, courts, Cafcass, social workers and other professionals
  • Assist with Legal Aid applications and ensure files meet Legal Aid requirements
  • Monitor case deadlines and maintain important date records
  • Carry out legal research as required

Job description

This is an opportunity for a motivated, organised and compassionate Public Family Paralegal to join a busy Family Law Department. The successful candidate will provide legal and administrative support to solicitors dealing with publicly funded family law matters, particularly care proceedings and cases involving children and vulnerable families.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop practical experience in public family law while working alongside experienced solicitors and other legal professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting solicitors with public family law and care proceedings.
  • Managing and maintaining accurate and confidential client files.
  • Preparing correspondence, court documents, statements and applications under supervision.
  • Reviewing and organising evidence, including social services documentation, expert reports and court papers.
  • Preparing court bundles and assisting with hearing preparation.

  • Assisting with Legal Aid applications and ensuring files comply with relevant Legal Aid requirements.
  • Monitoring case deadlines and maintaining accurate records of important dates.

Skills and Experience
