What you will be doing

As part of this role, you will work alongside a Consultant Forensic Psychologist, a Trainee Forensic Psychologist, and an Assistant Psychologist. You will support with Behavioural Support Plans (BSP's), data analysis, psychometric assessments, groupwork, low intensity 1:1 psychological intervention, and the preparation of resources used within interventions, as prescribed by the Consultant Forensic Psychologist.

Your day-to-day will include ward rounds, analysing behaviours and adapting care accordingly with colleagues, updating patient records, and providing overall care and support, which may include assisting with personal hygiene.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to Psychology assessments and a mix of individual and group work along with additional training, research and audit opportunities.

As a Psychology Support Assistant you will be:

  • Supporting the delivery of prescribed interventions to service users under the direct supervision of the Consultant Forensic Psychologist.
  • Undertaking additional assessments and therapeutic interventions with individuals and groups as directed by the Consultant Forensic Psychologist.
  • Working as part of the nursing team on the ward in ensuring all needs of the patients are met.
  • Working as a health care worker which may involve assisting the patients in their personal care and any other aspects of patients' health and care provision under the supervision of the nursing team on the ward.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A BPS accredited recognised degree in Psychology conferring Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR)
  • To be highly motivated, enthusiastic, confident in giving feedback to service users and staff, able to work in a demanding clinical environment, sensitive to the needs of others, capable of giving unconditional positive regard, responsive to supervision.

Location: Aberbeeg Hospital, Aberbeeg, Abertillery, NP13 2DAYou will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team at Aberbeeg Hospital, a 12 bedded low secure service and a modern medium secure ward for men. Aberbeeg Hospital focuses on empowering recovery and independence through the least restrictive practices and vocational activities, including working with the in-house Aberbeeg radio station and our residential animals. Aberbeeg is located within the boundaries of the county borough of Caerphilly, set in 11.5 acres of land with beautiful views of the Welsh countryside.
