Job summary

GSL Education is hiring a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant in York on a full-time basis. The role involves supporting pupils in mainstream lessons and targeted 1:1 or small-group sessions, using psychology insights to foster positive relationships and engagement.

Ideal candidates hold a Psychology degree, are patient, empathetic, reliable and eager to learn, with strong communication and teamwork skills. This is a great entry path into education and SEND support.

Qualifications

• Hold a degree in Psychology or a related subject.
• Genuine interest in working with children and young people.
• Patience, empathy and approachability.
• Strong understanding of behaviour, communication and individual needs.
• Confident building positive relationships with pupils.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliable, adaptable and eager to learn.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils across the school in mainstream lessons and targeted 1:1 or small-group work.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils needing extra help.
• Use understanding of psychology to build positive relationships and address individual needs.
• Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement with learning.
• Encourage independence, resilience and positive attitudes toward education.
• Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure consistent support across lessons.
• Observe pupil needs and respond appropriately to different behaviours.
