Job Title: Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Salary: £83 - £100 per day

We are currently seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to work at Client School for children with a range of Special Needs and Disabilities in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, starting as soon as possible.

About the School:

  • The school was rated as “Good” by Ofsted in 2024.
  • The school supports a large number of students with a range of Special Needs and Disabilities.
  • They have a comprehensive pastoral framework based on a caring ideology that fosters healthy relationships by promoting high standards and encouraged challenge.
  • With an emphasis on communication and cognition, the school's Semi-Formal curriculum is broken down into six sections.
  • In Key Stages 3 and 4, their goal is to promote independence and communication through relevant, real-world experiences, with a focus on the transference of skills.
  • Throughout the academic year, the school hosts a number of signature events as part of its careers program.
  • They pride themselves on delivering tailored education that meets the unique needs of each student, fostering their academic, social, and emotional development.

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology (or a closely related subject).
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in education, SEN support, or child/adolescent mental health.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children.
  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable (e.g. in schools, youth work, or care settings).

Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated support to SEMH students with additional needs such as mental health challenges, behavioural difficulties, and autism.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored interventions and differentiated activities.
  • Use your understanding of psychological theories to help inform your support strategies.
  • Establish strong, positive relationships with students through 1:1 and small group support.
  • Manage behaviour in alignment with the school's policies and ethos.
