Job summary

Protocol Education is seeking a Psychology Graduate Trainee SEND Support Assistant at a welcoming primary school in Wallsend. You will work with pupils across KS1 and KS2, supporting those with SEND to help them feel safe and ready to learn.

You will collaborate with class teachers and the SENCO, assist with 1:1 and small-group support, and use strategies for attention, behaviour, and emotional regulation. This hands-on role offers practical experience toward a future in Educational Psychology,

Qualifications

• A Psychology graduate (or similar degree).
• Interest in SEND, behaviour, mental health or child development.
• Calm, patient and resilient.
• Confident building relationships and setting boundaries.
• Willing to learn and take feedback.
• Comfortable working with pupils who may display challenging behaviour.

Responsibilities

• Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups.
• Helping children manage behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Using strategies such as visual prompts, calm routines and reward systems.
• Supporting literacy and numeracy tasks at an appropriate level.
• Encouraging social skills and confidence during lessons and breaktimes.
• Assisting with structured interventions and tailored learning activities.
• Helping pupils stay focused and engaged throughout the school day.
