Job description

Are you a Psychology Graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in mental health and special education?

This full-time, long-term role in a specialist school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is ideal for a Psychology Graduate looking to develop practical skills in a therapeutic setting.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with children and teenagers with a range of mental health challenges, including trauma, OCD, anxiety, attachment dysregulation and low self-esteem. Many of the students have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and therefore cope best in a specialist setting which fosters coping strategies and emotional resilience.

You will collaborate with the school's teaching team, therapists and support staff to deliver specialist education and interventions that help boost each student's learning, as well as their personal and emotional development. You will also help with behaviour management through positive relationship building.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone considering a career in Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Counselling. Not only will you gain hands-on experience supporting children with diverse mental health needs, you will also develop skills in therapeutic and restorative interventions.

Previous experience working with children and/or adults with additional needs would be beneficial but not essential. A passion for mental health and helping others is crucial!
