Job description


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced psychologist to join the Barnet CAMHS Service for Children and Adolescents with Neurodisability (SCAN). SCAN is a multidisciplinary team who provide assessment and treatment for children & young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities who are experiencing mental health difficulties,neurodevelopmental differences and where challenging behaviour may be present. The team incorporates psychiatrists, psychologists, family therapists and other allied health professionals and provides excellent opportunities for career development and continued development of leadership skills.





This post is full time, for a fixed term (one year) contract and is based at Holly Oak Clinic Barnet HA8 0AD. The successful applicant will join a warm and welcoming team and will be responsible for carrying out psychological, neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological assessments and specialist therapeutic interventions in the clinic as well as in the community and in school-based settings. The post holder will carry a caseload and will be expected to deliver a high-quality innovative service for young people and their parents and carers, using research and good practice guidelines.



In addition to having a multi-disciplinary approach, informed and embedded within the I Thrive Framework. There is a strong focus on further developing clinicians’ skillset and learning from each other. We offer high-quality individual and group supervision, as well as space for reflective practice. There are many CPD opportunities within the team and across North London Foundation NHS Trust; over the last year training has included PBS, ADI-R, ADOS training and ADHD assessment CPDs. The postholder will be supported by North London Foundation NHS Trust- senior clinical manger/s and psychology leads at the local and Trust level.

• The Job Holder will provide an efficient, effective, comprehensive and specialist assessment and intervention service for children and young people referred to the neurodevelopmental assessment and to provide this service to their carers/parents and families.

· The Job Holder will provide and/or support the provision of evidence based neurodevelopmental and psychological interventions for service users. This will include providing specialist assessment and contributing to multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment of children and young people referred to the Neurodevelopmental team.
• The Job Holder is expectedto liaise with and offer advice or consultation on clients’ psychological care to parents and/or carers, colleagues, professional and non-professional staff in mental health services and appropriate agencies.

· The Job Holder will undertake risk assessment and risk management for clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
