Job description

Description

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a high quality, evidence-based and specialist programme of psychological assessment and support for people dealing with cancer.

You will contribute professional expertise to Maggie’s MDT and integrated programme of cancer support for people living with the impact of cancer, aligned with the Clinical and Counselling Psychology Role Expectation Guidelines.

You will contribute to Maggie’s organisational programme of psychosocial research and work closely with the Centre Head to develop and promote the support programme.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for psychological leadership and the governance of psychological thinking, recording, and activity within the centre team.
  2. Provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention for people living with the impact of cancer using various formats including individual, couples, family, group work, support groups, networking groups, workshops, and lectures.
  3. Utilise theoretical and evidence-based practices in programme provision.
  4. Record and report all data related to your work.
  5. Supervise centre staff regarding psychological aspects of programme provision and facilitate staff support and supervision meetings.
  6. Responsible with the Centre Head for training and developing staff and volunteers.
  7. Ensure the development and articulation of psychological best practices within the centre.
  8. Develop and evaluate Maggie’s programme in collaboration with the Centre Head at local and national levels.
  9. Manage psychological risk within the centre.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  1. Postgraduate doctoral training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) and eligible for BPS chartered status.
  2. Experience working within a multidisciplinary care team.
  3. Experience in teaching, training, and consulting to professional and non-professional groups.
  4. Knowledge of models of psychological wellness, health psychology, adjustment to illness, and quality of life, contrasting with a medical model of illness.
  5. Proven skills in designing and conducting audit and research.
  6. Excellent communication skills to convey complex and sensitive information effectively.
  7. Project management and IT skills supporting research activities.
