Job summary

Practice Plus Group in Preston is seeking a highly experienced psychologist to join the Integrated Mental Health Team at HMP Preston. The role focuses on complex cases, trauma-informed programme delivery, and clinical leadership within the team.

You will line manage an Assistant Psychologist, conduct assessments, contribute to risk management, and provide training to staff while maintaining clinical records and supporting research activities.

Qualifications

• Qualified clinical, forensic or counselling psychologist.
• Registration with HCPC or BPS as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Offer clinical support and oversight to the Integrated Mental Health Team.
• Undertake psychological assessments of complex patients.
• Support multi-disciplinary formulations and treatment planning.
• Deliver psychological interventions to cases of complexity.

Job description

This Psychologist post sits in the Integrated Mental Health Team at HMP Preston, a category B prison run by the Health in Justice team at Practice Plus Group. The core work is psychological assessment and intervention for complex cases, alongside trauma-informed programme delivery and clinical leadership of the team. It carries line management of an assistant psychologist and is offered full time, with three-day part-time working considered. Right to work in the UK is required, and offers are subject to vetting and security checks.

What the job involves

• Offer clinical support and oversight to the Integrated Mental Health Team
• Undertake psychological assessments of complex patients
• Support complex multi-disciplinary formulations and treatment planning
• Deliver psychological interventions to cases of complexity
• Deliver and oversee 1:1 and group interventions on the Trauma Informed 'Making Sense' Programme
• Carry out structured and dynamic risk assessments
• Line manage an Assistant Psychologist and support delivery of their interventions
• Attend ACCT and segregation reviews and advise on psychological management
• Deliver teaching and training to healthcare and prison staff
• Provide clinical supervision to junior psychology colleagues and plan trainee placements
• Maintain clinical records and update the PTS dashboard with outcomes data
• Contribute to audit, service evaluation and research

Qualifications

• Qualified clinical, forensic or counselling psychologist

Registration & licences

• Registration with HCPC or BPS, as appropriate to the psychological therapy discipline

Experience

• Experience working with psychological trauma
