Qualifications

  • GMC registration with a license to practice and clinical qualifications required.
  • Willingness to engage in further training in general adult psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct medical reviews and home visits as needed.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary meetings and provide clinical advice.
  • Supervise non-medical prescribers and assess emergencies.

Job description

  • Medical review of patients as agreed in multi-disciplinary meetings
  • Home visits when required
  • Attending multidisciplinary case review meetings whenever they are arranged
  • Attending weekly team meeting/leadership meetings
  • Attending management and academic meetings
  • Advice to GP’s/Liaison Teams/Hospitals (occasional hospital attendance may be required)
  • Preparing reports and attending mental health tribunals for patients on Community Treatment Orders. Currently there are no CTOs on the case load
  • Comply with safeguarding legislation and obligations
  • Reviewing and preparing reports for patients’ subject to Sec 37/41 of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Assisting trust sponsored research projects
  • Supervision of non-medical prescribers
  • Giving clinical advice to team members as and when needed
  • Responsibility for assessment of emergencies, including assessment under the Mental Health Act 1983 and Section 136 assessments as part of on-call rota
  • To provide cover to community consultant colleagues on a mutually agreed basis
  • To work within a multi-disciplinary team and facilitate individual care and treatment
  • To actively engage in Trust policies, programmes, training, initiatives and strategic reviews
  • To work within national guidance and within professional codes of conduct at all times
  • To share responsibility for clinical audit of services with other consultant colleagues and in this matter

Qualifications:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice
  • Included on the GMC Specialist register, or within 6 months of completing
  • Approved Clinician status, or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
  • Approved under Section 12(2) or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • DBS clearance
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • Willingness to engage with further training in general adult psychiatry
  • Additional clinical qualifications
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Clinical skills and knowledge:

  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Clinical training and experience required for gaining UK CCT, or other alternative routes, such as CESR Fellowship
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Widespread and detailed experience of assessment and management of general adult patients
  • Ability to offer expert clinical independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
