Responsibilities:
- Medical review of patients as agreed in multi-disciplinary meetings
- Home visits when required
- Attending multidisciplinary case review meetings whenever they are arranged
- Attending weekly team meetings/leadership meetings
- Attending management and academic meetings
- Providing advice to GPs, Liaison Teams, and Hospitals (occasional hospital attendance may be required)
- Preparing reports and attending mental health tribunals for patients on Community Treatment Orders (currently none on the caseload)
- Complying with safeguarding legislation and obligations
- Reviewing and preparing reports for patients under Sec 37/41 of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Assisting with trust-sponsored research projects
- Supervision of non-medical prescribers
- Providing clinical advice to team members as needed
- Assessing emergencies, including under the Mental Health Act 1983 and Section 136 assessments, as part of the on-call rota
- Providing cover to community consultant colleagues on a mutually agreed basis
- Working within a multidisciplinary team to facilitate individual care and treatment
- Engaging in Trust policies, training, initiatives, and strategic reviews
- Adhering to national guidance and professional codes of conduct
- Sharing responsibility for clinical audit of services with colleagues
Qualifications:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice
- Included on the GMC Specialist register, or within 6 months of completing
- Approved Clinician status, or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
- Approved under Section 12(2) or able to achieve within 3 months of completing
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- DBS clearance
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
- Willingness to engage in further training in general adult psychiatry
- Additional clinical qualifications
- In good standing with GMC regarding warnings and conditions on practice
Clinical Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
- Clinical training and experience for UK CCT or alternative routes like CESR Fellowship
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Experience in assessment and management of general adult patients
- Ability to provide expert clinical responsibility for patient care
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience within NHS or similar services
