The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner prescribes medication, implements patient teaching, and facilitates next-care linkages, referrals, and/or admissions to ensure smooth and timely transitions to appropriate level of care/service.

Responsible for covering and treating behavioral health patients in the Emergency Department.

Provides consultative services for patients with potential/definitive co-morbid psychiatric illnesses admitted to the medical/surgical floors, including a significant number of geriatric patients with behavioral health issues.

Possesses analytical skills to evaluate care needs, gather relevant clinical data, evaluate laboratory data, and make sound clinical recommendations.

Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, exhibiting good judgment and tact when dealing with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

Must be comfortable working independently, with telephonic back-up from a psychiatrist.

Prefer inpatient and/or ED experience.
