Job summary

Arriva UK Bus is recruiting a PSV MOT Engineer at the Chester Depot (Wrexham work may be required). You will prepare buses for DVSA testing, perform pre-MOT inspections, and carry out identified remedial work to ensure safety and compliance.

The role offers daytime hours with potential overtime and a focus on safety, quality and documentation, with training and development opportunities in PSV and related licenses.

Qualifications

• Qualified or apprenticed in PSV/HGV mechanical engineering (and electrical if possible).
• Experience working on PSV or HGV vehicles.
• Strong understanding of MOT standards and vehicle compliance.

Responsibilities

• Undertake Pre-MOT inspections to high maintenance standards.
• Carry out remedial work identified during inspections.
• Complete annual Fire Risk Assessment on the vehicle.
• Present vehicles for Annual Test at authorised stations.
• Support OCRS & DVSA Earned Recognition through MOT prep.

PSV MOT Engineer

Location: Chester (Work at Wrexham may be required)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £18.35 per hour, 38 hours per week + Overtime + 110’s of Arriva Village Benefits

Hours: Mon - Thurs: 08:00 - 16:00 | Friday: 06:00 - 12:00 (These hours may be flexible for the company’s needs)

Arriva is looking to recruit a PSV Fitter/Engineer to join our engineering team at our Chester Depot in Hawarden to undertake a role preparing and presenting MOT buses to the DVSA for test. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PSV Engineer who takes pride in high standards of vehicle safety, compliance, and workmanship

What You Will Be Doing

• Undertaking a Pre-MOT inspection to Arriva's high maintenance standards which exceed the DVSA's standards
• Carry out any remedial work that was identified during these inspections
• Complete an annual Fire Risk Assessment on the vehicle to contribute to bringing down thermal incidents
• Take vehicles to authorised testing stations and presenting them for Annual Test
• Ensuring that MOT preparation and Presentation contribute positively to Arriva's OCRS & DVSA Earned Recognition Scheme
• Assist with other engineering and workshop operations like Rota inspections, defects and breakdowns if required
• Maintain high standards of safety, quality and documentation always

What we are looking for

• A recognised qualification or apprenticeship in PSV/HGV Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (and Electrical if possible)
• Proven experience working on PSV or HGV vehicles
• Strong understanding of MOT Standard and Vehicle Compliance
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively
• Full UK driving licence. Cat D (PCV) is preferred; however, training can be provided to the right candidate
• A proactive, safety-focused approach with strong attention to detail

• Good communication skills and teamwork ability
