Working as a Support Officer within the Police Perpetrated Domestic Abuse team, you will be making a difference in victims' lives, providing support and help during both criminal and misconduct investigations, and rebuilding public trust in policing. You will be required to work to high professional standards, with integrity and professionalism, to be trusted with information and operational security.

Job Purpose:

Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Provide appropriate support for victims during criminal and misconduct investigations, including risk assessments, formulating victim strategies, and working with PSD investigators and the Victim Care Unit to ensure victim safety and wellbeing.
  2. Ensure Victim Contracts and detailed OELs are completed promptly after charges, and relevant court paperwork is produced in a timely manner.
  3. Inform and guide discussions with victims regarding bail conditions, VPS, Special Measures, and Restraining Orders, completing relevant documentation and sharing with other agencies and the OIC as appropriate.
  4. Understand the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme process, regularly review investigations to identify opportunities, and complete relevant paperwork when necessary.
  5. Liaise with Witness Care Unit and PSD BST Meetings and Hearings Coordinator regarding victims attending court and hearings requiring additional practical support (e.g., childcare, travel, accommodation). WCO to arrange.
  6. Attend DV Court to respond to issues raised by the Crown Prosecution Service and facilitate victims giving evidence.
  7. If a victim withdraws support, especially in high-risk cases, arrange for retraction statements to be taken and deploy with an IDVA if practicable to support and encourage victim engagement in CJ and internal police disciplinary processes.
