Job summary

Brookwood Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Prototyping & Maintenance Engineer to join an established multi-skilled engineering team at Colworth, Sharnbrook. This hands-on role covers prototype manufacture, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly and equipment maintenance.

Your duties include interpreting drawings, operating manual and CNC machines, TIG welding, supporting maintenance, and mentoring apprentices within a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical engineering experience including machining, fabrication, assembly and welding.
• Experience with manual/CNC lathes and TIG welding.
• Knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems and basic mechanical/electrical maintenance.
• Good engineering drawing interpretation and CNC programming skills.
• Experience working on prototypes or one-off engineering solutions.
• A proactive, hands-on approach with strong ownership and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture prototype components, assemblies, nozzles and jigs using manual and CNC machinery.
• Carry out TIG/spot welding and work with stainless steel, food-grade aluminium and plastics.
• Interpret engineering drawings and undertake precision measurement.
• Work closely with design, controls and process engineers to develop practical solutions.
• Support planned and reactive maintenance and troubleshoot Pilot Plant equipment.
• Maintain engineering safety and maintenance documentation, including SOPs, risk assessments and PUWER records.
• Support and mentor engineering apprentices.

Prototyping & Maintenance Engineer

Contract: 6 months initially, with potential to extend or become permanent

Location: Colworth, Sharnbrook

Rate: £385 per day (full-time, 37.5 hours per week)

We are seeking a Prototyping & Maintenance Engineer / Senior Engineer to join an established multi-skilled engineering team supporting new product development within a highly utilised Pilot Plant. This is a hands‑on role combining prototype manufacture, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly and equipment maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Manufacture prototype components, assemblies, nozzles and jigs using manual and CNC machinery.


• Carry out TIG/spot welding and work with stainless steel, food-grade aluminium and plastics.
