Job description
Overview

With nearly 3,000 employees across more than 20 countries, we help our clients solve some of the world's most complex challenges - from cutting-edge automotive engineering to advancing clean energy technologies.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Prototype Build Technician to join our Prototype Build Team at our Shoreham Technical Centre. In this hands-on role, you'll be involved in the assembly, modification, and instrumentation of prototype mechanical systems - from engines and transmissions to electric powertrain components.

This is a contract position, initially for a three-month period, supporting a high volume of project work.

Responsibilities
  • Precision Assembly: Building and modifying prototype components and mechanical assemblies to engineering drawings and technical instructions.
  • Instrumentation Integration: Installing and adapting specialist instrumentation including thermocouples, pressure tappings, speed sensors, crank encoders, and bonded sensors.
  • Component Modification: Using hand and machine tools (lathe, mill, drill, grinder, etc.) to modify components where required.
  • Measurement & Analysis: Measuring build parameters such as torques, clearances, and volumes. Disassembling components to assess wear or performance.
  • Vehicle & Test Cell Work: Installing assemblies into vehicles or test rigs - including occasional work in confined spaces or at height.
  • Data Logging & Reporting: Using computers to read work instructions, record data, and communicate with project teams (proficiency in Word and Excel essential).
  • Safe Handling: Moving and lifting large, heavy, or awkward components safely, using manual handling techniques or lifting equipment.
What We're Looking For
  • Has broad hands-on experience with mechanical assemblies - including engines, transmissions, electric motors, or battery systems.
  • Works with a high degree of accuracy, even under pressure.
  • Can interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and written instructions confidently.
  • Takes initiative, suggests improvements, and contributes to problem-solving.
  • Is adaptable, methodical, and thrives in a fast-paced prototyping environment
