Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic medical physicist, to join a team of physicists, engineers and dosimetrists/technologists in the provision of radiotherapy physics services in proton therapy.
You will have achieved state registration or be eligible with equivalent radiotherapy physics experience. You will have a practical and theoretical understanding of dosimetry and quality assurance for radiotherapy equipment and of treatment planning techniques. Experience with Proton Beam radiotherapy would be an advantage but is not essential.
The work will involve contact with patients and the ability to communicate clearly and sympathetically with patients having a variety of backgrounds is essential.

Main duties of the job

The main role of this post is to provide support to all aspects of the work of the Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) Physics Group including QA, dosimetry, treatment planning and checking. The post-holder will also contribute to and initiate developments within the PBT Physics service and contribute to research and teaching.
Dosimetry and QA is performed outside clinical hours and requires the post-holder to participate in the duty rota of early and late shifts. The role requires shift-working patterns including some Saturday working

  • Good First Degree in a Physical Science or equivalent
  • Relevant Masters or higher degree
  • STP or IPEM Training Exit Certificate or equivalent Experience

Experience

  • Relevant experience in Radiotherapy Dosimetry and Quality Assurance
  • Relevant experience in Treatment Planning Knowledge of radiotherapy techniques and clinical applications including PBT
  • Experience in the clinical environment in PBT.
