Position Details

Base Location: Successful applicants must be based in one of our Scottish locations: Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £50,100 - £75,100 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits supporting your finances, wellbeing, and family.

The Role

As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio, we have an opportunity for a Protection & Control Engineer to join our newly formed Offshore AC Project Engineering team. This role will support our Island projects, facilitating the connection to HVDC systems with state-of-the-art AC plant, grid control, and stabilization technology in challenging environmental conditions.

You Will

• Assess and define the technical scope for protection and control in new and existing substations.
• Prepare scheme designs, key line diagrams, relay protection settings, and support IEC61850 solutions.
• Review third-party designs, witness FATs, and support field teams to ensure quality installations.
• Evaluate tenders and manage specialist services from consultants.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify and manage engineering risks and opportunities for project excellence.

You Have

• HND or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• Technical skills in transmission protection and control scheme design, including setting calculations.
• Ability to assess engineering problems critically and evaluate technical solutions.
• Good communication skills, diligence, task prioritization, and knowledge of relevant legislation such as CDM and ESQCR.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it, with support for professional development.
