This role supports the firm’s global Energy & Natural Resources (ENR) industry group, to drive its business development and marketing efforts through pitching and proposals.

Our ENR group consists of more than 160 lawyers (with many other lawyers involved in the sector assigned to other practice groups), providing an exceptional global platform for businesses engaged in the extraction, production, distribution, and trading of ENR products and services or the financing of energy and natural resources projects, anywhere in the world.

The Proposals and Pursuits Senior Executive will handle ENR related RFP’s and pitches, including capability statements and other client facing marketing materials.

The successful candidate will work largely autonomously in terms of the day-to-day business of ENR RFPs, but also collaboratively with the business development professionals supporting the ENR Group globally (or in other industry groups and regions) as well as the central proposals and pursuits team. The position sits within a growing, creative and energetic firm-wide marketing team of professionals reporting to both the Assistant Director of M&BD for ENR (based in London), and the central pitch team Senior Proposal Manager (based in Leeds).

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the ENR group on large, complex RFPs and pitches.
  • Project managing and delivering on some end-to-end RFP opportunities, ensuring the firm’s best practice processes are followed throughout.
  • Assisting in identifying winning strategies and drafting persuasive key sales messages that seek to differentiate what Reed Smith has to offer.
  • Co-ordinating and managing inputs from a variety of stakeholders.
  • Drafting, editing, formatting and producing RFP response documents utilising both standard content text tailored as appropriate to the opportunity, whilst also drafting some content from scratch (for example executive summaries).
  • Supporting partners/lawyers in preparation for client presentations.
  • Preparing client reports as part of the client engagement process.
  • Ensuring wherever possible that post proposal reviews are undertaken and lessons learnt.
  • Ensuring all proposal opportunities are tracked within the firm’s CRM system.
  • Helping to maintain a library of proposal-related content.
  • Creating proposal-related reports.

Key Skills, Attributes And Experience

  • Excellent drafting and writing ability, with an emphasis on creating an excellent “first time working product”.
  • Self-starter who can show initiative and get on with tasks without the need for significant supervision and direction.
  • High level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Significant experience in a partnership environment in a similar role with an appreciation of the benefits of a sector and focused client approach.
  • Ability to liaise with people at all levels, throughout different geographies and time zones.
  • Ability to learn about the ENR sector quickly and grasp technical terms.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and willingness to approach senior partners and lawyers with new concepts and ideas.
  • Have the confidence to present ideas and views clearly and with conviction.
  • Adopt a flexible and versatile approach to work and enjoy working with a team with different needs, styles and requirements.
  • To be collaborative, resourceful, proactive and creative.
  • Ability to create and maintain visibility within the group.
  • Have tenacity and show willingness to implement new ideas.
  • Have the confidence and be alert to sensitivities, to challenge and take a robust commercial stance, where appropriate
  • Have a proactive and solutions-based approach as well as having a can-do approach to delivering needs of the ENR group.
  • Proposals experience within a professional services environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail, grammar and proof-reading skills.
  • Strong IT literacy.
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure, juggling multiple. deadlines and managing the expectations of demanding internal clients.
  • Confident and credible in dealing with senior stakeholders, including partners and senior managers.

Hybrid working with an expectation of being in the office a minimum of three days a week.

Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule.
