Job summary

The Surrey Local Authority is seeking an experienced Housing Officer to join the Private Sector Housing team on a hybrid basis. You will investigate complaints, perform inspections, and assess disrepair using HHSRS under the guidance of the Senior Property Standards and Empty Homes Officer.

You will also enforce HMOs and mobile home sites, maintain records, and contribute to reducing empty properties across the borough.

Qualifications

• HHSRS certification and a minimum of 2 years' experience in property standards, environmental health or similar housing enforcement.
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation and related policy.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence carrying out site visits and enforcement duties.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve complaints relating to poor housing conditions.
• Carry out proactive and programmed inspections of residential properties.
• Use the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) to assess disrepair in line with council policies.
• Prepare recommendations for enforcement action to ensure compliance with legislation.
• Inspect, license, and enforce Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and mobile home/caravan sites.
• Maintain the team's computerised records systems with accurate case information.
