Job Description:

We have an exciting new role for Northamptonshire Police, Fire and Rescue. We are recruiting a Property Maintenance Technician at their Headquarters in Northampton.

This is a permanent role, working Monday to Friday, 37 hours a week.

Note: Due to police vetting criteria, applicants must have resided continuously in the UK for 5 years at the time of application.

Role Purpose:

Support the Deputy Property Operations Manager and the Property Operations team by handling minor repairs and defects across Police & Fire estates.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide repair and maintenance services for police and fire premises, including sourcing, pricing, and purchasing materials.
  2. Monitor daily operation of mechanical and electrical systems such as boilers, ventilation, generators, compressors, and security gates.
  3. Conduct weekly fire alarm testing and initial testing of emergency/security gates and doors.
  4. Coordinate with contractors, ensuring security and safety protocols are followed, and report unsafe practices.
  5. Assist with logistics, including transportation, delivery, and external event support.
  6. Support office relocations and movements.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and order in outdoor areas, including gardens and car parks.
  8. For police sites: assist with fuel deliveries, vehicle sundries, and operational support like bulb changes and puncture repairs.
  9. Undertake relevant H&S training, including manual handling, asbestos awareness, and working at heights.
  10. Perform portable appliance testing and maintain records as per safety standards.
  11. Contribute to housekeeping and workflow management using technology.

Essential Criteria:

  • Willingness to undertake relevant health & safety training.
  • Trade background with knowledge in plumbing, painting/decorating, carpentry, and electrical work.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexible working hours and locations.
  • Valid driving license, capable of driving manual vehicles, and willing to pass assessments.
  • Initiative, self-motivation, and awareness of diversity and equality issues.
