Job description
Overview

We are seeking a competent and professional general builder who will be able to fulfil the needs of the company in return for a competitive salary and enjoyable work environment. The right candidate must be driven, hard-working and have basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out skilled DIY and general maintenance work involved in all aspects of onsite building maintenance, both internal and external.
  • General building DIY and maintenance including basic carpentry, plumbing, replacement of tiling, flooring, painting and decorating, skimming and basic electrical competence.
  • Regular checks and assessments of both private and public areas, liaising with Line Manager and other team members, performing jobs as and when they are required.
  • Day to day responsibilities such as installation inspections, diagnosing faults, testing, replacement, repair and maintenance of building fixtures and fittings.
  • General plumbing including washers, taps, unblocking toilets, unblocking stacks, unblocking drains, installing new sinks, urinals and toilets, pipework (copper or PVC).
  • General carpentry such as hanging doors, new locks, architraves, window frames, boxing in, assembling furniture, easing and adjusting windows, replacing handles and similar hardware.
  • General tiling (floors and walls) and flooring work (carpet tiles and wooden flooring).
  • General painting and decorating, basic electrical maintenance, day to day care and maintenance of gardens and hedging, furniture moves and removals, pest control, window cleaning, and general garden carpentry.
  • Identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with agreed codes, law, working practices, health and safety.
  • Liaising with Line Manager and other team members and performing jobs as required; carrying out planned tasks in accordance with contract requirements and within specified time limits.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, legislation and procedures including health and safety; maintain accurate records/documentation associated with work; immediately report problems/failures that may impact the organisation or its clients.
  • Meet targets and contribute to the team; contribute towards the efficient running of the team; adhere to organisation policies and procedures.
  • From time to time, participate in special projects as reasonably required; be responsible for allocated workload and meet all targets.
Qualifications and Essentials
  • Experience in this type of job role minimum 3 years
  • Valid UK driving license
  • Requisite knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to the environment
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to this role
  • Skills in general DIY, maintenance and gardening including assessment, installation, repair, and maintenance
  • Friendly and approachable with a CAN DO attitude
  • Understanding and delivering good customer service; good attention to detail
  • Demonstrable time management and project management skills
  • Ongoing training to maintain necessary knowledge, skills and qualifications in line with organisational requirements and applicable laws
Working Conditions
  • You may be expected to work in accordance with the organisation's overtime policies.
  • The role requires travel within the team area; occasional travel outside the area as required.
