At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We have an opportunity for a proactive, diligent and ambitious Projects Support officer, to join our Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) team, to support the delivery of key projects across the strategic pillars of the ECMC Programme Office.

About the team

Here at Cancer Research UK, our understanding of cancer is increasing at a faster pace than ever before, and more people are surviving thanks to the work we do. Every day we achieve extraordinary things by being innovative, imaginative, and bold in our work.

The Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres (ECMC) Network is a UK wide network of centres that conduct early phase trials and associated translational research and is co-funded by CRUK, DHSC, the Little Princess Trust and the health departments of the devolved nations. The Programme Office is housed by CRUK and supports the network in a variety of ways. You can learn more about the network and the Programme Office here.

The ECMC network is made up of 17 adult centres and 12 paediatric locations across the UK. Each ECMC has unique and world leading expertise within early phase clinical research. Collaboration across the ECMC network gives us the edge in generating new treatments for cancer.

In this role you will be the first point of contact for ECMC Centres and other stakeholders, liaising with the wider programme office and CRUK representatives to ensure the smooth running of the operational, financial, logistical and administrative functions of the network.

You don't need a science background to thrive in this role - we're looking for a proactive, can-do individual eager to grow their admin, comms, project management and coordination skills. In return, you'll step into a dynamic position working across stakeholders to support a multitude of projects and tasks - from research nurses to patient reps and funding bodies - gaining hands-on experience in partnerships, communication, and everything in between. You'll also be surrounded by people as dedicated to beating Cancer as you.

What will I be doing?

  • Providing operational support for the ECMC Programme Office and all aspects of the Network's administration, including
  • Drafting and formatting correspondence, minutes, reports, slides, presentations etc
  • Maintaining an accessible filing system
  • Supporting communication across the network by acting as the central contact point, responding to routine enquiries and redirecting complex enquiries where necessary
  • Supporting maintenance of communication channels, such as LinkedIn, ECMC webpages, newsletters and resources as required
  • Engaging with stakeholders including pharma companies and ECMC centres to support clinical research opportunities within the network
  • Managing and maintaining processes and systems, ensuring Programme Office- wide implementation
  • Supporting the Programme Office in the organisation, running and attendance of internal and external meetings and conferences (including Annual Network Meeting with 200 delegates),including sourcing venues, catering, registration, travel, accommodation, communication with speakers and delegates, virtual meeting requirements and on the day support
  • Financial administration tasks such as processing invoices and expenses

What are we looking for?

  • Experience of providing administrative support, versed in using tools like Microsoft teams, Outlook, Excel, Mural and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication skills and confidence in acting as the central contact point, responding to routine enquiries in an appropriate manner, redirecting complex enquiries where necessary
  • Good relationship building and management skills to maintain relationships with companies, patients, and ECMC network members
  • Experience in supporting the running of large, virtual and in-person meetings
  • Outstanding time and people management skills, able to juggle multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Experience of managing NDAs and sensitive communications appropriately
